First Thing’s First inaugurates 2 Centers

FIRST THING’S FIRST PRESS RELEASE. Santa Marta, Colombia. July 2, 2015. The ‘First Thing’s First’ Alliance, of which ALAS is a founding member, inaugurated the aeioTU Child Development Centers of Bureche and Cristo Rey on Thursday, July 2nd, in Santa Marta. These two centers are benefiting 1,400 children.

The centers provide care through various modalities- home-visiting: for pregnant women and children up to two years old, and the institutional: focusing on children between ages 3 and 5. These infrastructures seek to provide comprehensive care and ensure access to all necessary resources for these vulnerable children’s development.

The First Lady of the Nation, Maria Clemencia Rodriguez de Santos, and heads of organizations that are part of the alliance participated in these inaugural events. Among these leaders was ALAS’ general deputy director, Maria Mercedes Liévano, who stated: ” Thanks to the joint effort achieved between the public and private sector made through ‘First Thing’s First’, today we have inaugurated two new centers, of a total of 17 centers that are having a positive impact on the lives of around 9,000 children living in vulnerable sectors of our country. Thanks to these interventions, Colombia is advancing in closing social gaps.”

This successful alliance is comprised of aeioTU-Carulla Foundation, ALAS Foundation, Bancolombia Foundation, Barefoot Foundation, Mario Santo Domingo Foundation and has been supported by more than 30 national and international entities.
