The ALAS-IDB Awards originated from the joint interest of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and ALAS Foundation to create an initiative that would recognize, disseminate and promote good practices in early childhood development (ECD) in Latin America and the Caribbean. Being the first initiative of its kind in the region, these awards represent the interests of the two entities to recognize innovation, excellence and investment in programs that benefit children under the age of 6. The aim is to highlight the work of individuals and institutions committed with early childhood and leading high quality programs and interventions with a suitable intensity and duration; especially those that combine early education, psychosocial stimulation, nutrition, health and work with families. The ALAS-IDB Awards have four categories: - Best Educator - Best Early Childhood Development Center - Best Publication (aimed at children under age 6 and/or their teachers or caregivers) - Best Innovation for early childhood development So far we have received thousands of nominations for the past ALAS-IDB Awards ceremonies, which inspire us to continue spreading these achievements and encouraging others to join efforts for early childhood development. This impact reflects great interest in the region for early childhood development, which is very important because there is still much work to do: although in recent decades there has been an increase in access to these services, there are still differences in the coverage and quality between countries and socioeconomic groups.
